story never disguises himself to Hamlet or anyone for that matter. Shakespeare uses Horatio to show the audience what an honest person is. To many, Horatio is best liked for this very character trait. What Shakespeare is trying to say about illusion and reality in Hamlet, is that sometimes the two are tough to distinguish, and one must use his or her best judgment when trying to decide what is and what isn’t real.
