The first thing came to my mind after reading “Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, an American Slave” was how lucky and blessed I am to have the ‘freedom’ without having to fight for it. As a foreigner, I only had a little knowledge on African American enslavement. Even though the slavery does not exist in this century, this book reminded me that I must not forget the past; the time when people had to fight for what they were entitled to: ‘freedom.’ Moreover, I must respect and treat other people the way I want them to treat me. Finally, I must learn from the past and never make the same mistake.
