Benjamin Franklin, a man of many talents was born in Boston on January 17, 1706. He began developing his talent with words early in life by becoming an apprentice to his father (a printer). By the age of 17, Franklin went to Philadelphia to be another printer’s assistant as well. He decided to go back home for Christmas and stayed for about two years before he returned to Philadelphia. had been looked at as a traitor to his American people for many years because he worked in Europe for so long, but in 1789 the U.S. govt. gave him permission to come home.
As an accomplished writer, businessman, negotiator, cartographer (he mapped the Gulf Stream), scientist and Founding Father, he died April 17, 1790, at the age of 80 years. Just as Franklin said earlier in his rich life, “Nothing is certain except for death and taxes.”
