They were awfully good at stealing certain commodities like fertilizer which were needed on the farm of Warder Hannetjie” (107). This brings to life Brille’s outlook on his children to cooperate so that life will run smoothly. This is what the group and Hannetje worked out. Hannetjie was even able to shine to his own “bass.” After all, earlier in the story the author says, “no warder had last more than one week with them” (104).
