By writing this novel, I believe Steinbeck was trying to show that wealth could cause many changes in the human mind. Some changes are for the better, but most are for the worse. In Kino’s case, he went from being a gentle, respecting person, into murdering, money wanting mad man. All of this turned his life into nothing but sadness and misery.
