characteristics aren’t really identified. They are just, all around negative people. This gives minds a the travelers hearing the story a chance to wonder. Since, no sin was specifically identified, the Pardoner is able to condemn a vast array of sins.
Lastly, the Pardoner had little concern with actual religious matters and makes no real reference to Christianity. His concern is money, and the Christian religion is only a means to achieve this end.
