If he did not change from a hubris man to a humble man, the play would have a very different ending, maybe proctor would still die but for different reasons. And if Hale did not turn into such a faulty man the witch trails would have probably been stooped soon as the town realized it was fake. These changes made the characters have dynamic roles, keeping their actions always changing.
