Salvatore Gravano was born on March 12,1945, the son of Caterina and Giorlando, otherwise known as Kay and Gerry, both from Sicily. Kay came over as a child while Gerry came through from Canada as an illegal alien. Salvatore was the last of five children born to the couple. While Salvatore was a child the family dropped the name Salvatore and opted for “Sammy” because the child reminded everyone of an uncle with the same name.
