Can Same-Sex Marriage Be Straight?
In our society, marriage has served a variety of functions other than raising and producing offspring. If it were only about raising a child, society would discourage sterile men and women from marrying and not allow those women to bear children. But marriage is about more than reproduction. We have to show that there is significant social impairment to make it illegal. In same-sex marriage, there isn’t any harm. Speculation is the cousin hysteria; tradition has been related to civil injustices (Cabaj, 207).
Same-sex marriage is no cause for panic among the conservatives. Gay couples should be allowed to form this marital relationship that specifies all the mutual rights and responsibilities of heterosexual marriage. Would you not allow them to share this right?
