The topic I am currently researching the degree of importance small states play in the Electoral College. By using past electoral college returns, I hope to find patterns on how vital (or non-vital) the role of small states are in electing our President. I will examine to what extent small states band together and vote for the same candidate. I do realize that there has only been one election where the Electoral College has not chosen the candidate who won the popular vote, but that fact is inconsequential to my paper.
