In “Misery”, by Anton Chekhov, Iona, the main character, is oblivious to his

In conclusion Iona’s characteristic of unawareness to his surroundings can be seen
through his lack of feeling pain, numbness to the cold and by inadvertently isolating
himself from reality. The story takes a powerful look at the lack of human involvement
and compassion towards one man's grief, and makes the reader think that what others do
affects ones actions in life and determines the way a person behaves.
