On November 7, 1455 Joan’s mother carried a petition to the appeal commission appointed by Calixtus III to rehabilitate Joan. The commission took place in the cathedral on Notre- Dame Paris, then later to Rouen, then to Domremy, and finally arrived at Orleans. On July 7, 1456, the archbishop of Reims announced that the trial and the sentence of Joan as a fraud. In 1909 Pope Pius X beatified her, and in 1920 Pope Benedict XV declared Joan a Saint.
