Interpretive Research Paper-Egyptian Ruling Elite The country I studied during this project was Egypt, and the character I was assigned to was Ismail Pasha, who was part of the Ruling Elite. So Egypt tied into the Industrial revolution because it temporarily replaced the United States of America in the ever important cotton industry, and because it was essentially controlled by powerhouse Britain. Egypt didn’t gain nominal independence until 1922, eight years after the industrial revolution. Finally, in 1953, Egypt became a republic.
