Abner Snopes is the evil character in William Faulkner’s short story “Barn Burning.” Abner deliberately builds fires to burn down barns owned by other property owners and we also learn that he destroys a rug throughout this story. When accused of starting the fires Abner doesn’t admit he did it and there is no evidence to say he did, but what is odd is that he simply picks up and goes, moves on

in himself what is morally right. Stary being around to witness all of his father’s wrongdoings knows that he is not like his father and leaves without looking back. By reading on his actions and his speech you see how Abner was and have a better understanding as to what Starty had gone through. At the story’s end you can side with Sarty and understand his decision on leaving and not coming back.
