Does the normal rusting process of iron depend on bacterial action? If bacteria are not present, will iron rust extremely slowly?

Hypothesis:
In my experiment I will try to prove that bacteria does have an effect on the process of rusting. I believe that the bacteria will have a positive effect on the process of rusting. I think this because I have read that they have found huge clumps

For this experiment I did five trials to make sure I had the most accurate results. Four out of five test groups showed that the sterile nail rusted more than the non-sterile.
