The region's climate is very harsh, and often includes incredibly cold winters. However, the summers can be quite pleasant. The image of the North being a land of constant snow and ice is a completely incorrect. Temperatures become mild during the summer months. The average temperature for areas near Yellowknife in July is 16º C. However, the annual average temperature in Alert is -18º C, in Inuvik -10 º C, and in Resolute, -17º C.

a gigantic supply of fish in this region, and, due to this large number, many fish can live a long life. This means, that most fish taken out of the north are enormous. Another animal that usually represents the North would be sled dogs. Sled dogs are a hearty breed of animals. They have very thick fur and amazing stamina. A team of dogs can pull a sled and a person for hundreds of miles.
